The McLaren F1 team has launched its new car, the Mercedes-powered MP4-25, at Vodafone’s Newbury headquarters in the UK. Although Mercedes-Benz is only an engine supplier for 2010, the new car sports the familiar silver livery, the famous three-pointed star and the full Mercedes-Benz name. Still, there are obvious differences in terms of the radical “shark fin” engine cover and the double diffuser design that is “on the limit” of legality.
MP4-25 will be driven by world champions Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button—a fact that team boss Martin Whitmarsh believes is enough to propel the McLaren team ahead of the rest come the end of the season.
“A great team and a competitive car can only succeed with the best drivers. Neither of our drivers need much of an introduction because between them they have won the past two world championships. We are thrilled this year to have Lewis and Jenson represent the team on track. Both drivers are winners and they want to win this year”, he said. “Our goal is clear and we aim to win”.
