2011 Honda CR-Z

The 2011 Honda CR-Z has been officially unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show. With the 2+2 CR-Z coupe-hatchback, Honda aims to introduce a sporty, fun-to-drive hybrid to a segment in which the current driver’s car is Toyota Prius. CR-Z is based on a shortened, widened version of Honda Insight’s platform, but features new spring and damper settings.

Power comes from Honda’s Integrated Motor Assist (IMA) hybrid system, which draws from a 20-bhp electric motor and a 102-bhp 1.5-litre engine, generating a total of 122 bhp at 6000 rpm and 174 Nm at 1000–1500 rpm. The power is channeled to the front two wheels via a six-speed manual gearbox. To find the balance between driving pleasure and fuel economy, three driving modes are available for selection, each altering parameters such as the steering, throttle response, climate control, among others.

Emitting 117 grams/km of carbon dioxide and consuming 20.0 km/litre of fuel, CR-Z promises a blend of sports-car fun and hybrid economy. To be launched in European and U.S. markets in the third quarter of 2010, CR-Z should make its way to Malaysia by the end of this year or early 2011.
